Assassin's Creed Reveals Surprising Attack on Titan Crossover for Thanksgiving

In a surprising crossover event that challenges conventional expectations, the game developer has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, providing free bonus story content for Shadows players.

Peculiar Mission Disclosed

According to the official statement, "An unusual meeting leads heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a fresh adventure, where rumors of prohibited practices and terrifying changes resonate through the darkness." The plot features a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who charges the characters with journeying into the Gemstone Grotto—a important location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a hidden cult.

The mission concentrates on "peculiar experiments and a fearsome foe" and is open to all players who have unlocked the Yasuke character.

Iconic Settings and Changes

The preview features the Underground Chapel from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This historic location was formerly where the Reiss royal family transmitted the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser finishes with a powerful moment showing a character, probably the captive, morphing into a Titan that looms over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Extra Features

Players who finish the quest will obtain an exclusive katana alongside numerous items hidden throughout the area in secret chests. The update also features premium Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

  • Titan-themed attire for Yasuke
  • Mikasa attire for Naoe
  • Special weapons
  • Survey Corps vehicle

Latest Free Story Addition

This patch also brings the game's latest free story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature abilities: Naoe introduces a dramatic interpretation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. True to its name, "The Mystery" also features a new environmental puzzle that may eventually clarify some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Crossovers

This signifies scarcely the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime properties. The series formerly included a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla unofficially featured a quest that obviously referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
