Citizens have assembled around the country to remember two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on that fateful day in October 2023, as talks continued in Egypt over a conclusion to the war in the Gaza Strip.

The attack resulted in more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the uniquely most lethal day for Jews since the Holocaust.

Israel responded by initiating a armed campaign in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the objectives of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will not create a danger to Israel".

Memorial Gatherings Across Israel

The government authorities delayed state commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred around the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the families of people who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was organized in Tel Aviv. Arranged by the affected families, it was televised across Israeli broadcast stations.

Some time earlier, a silent tribute was respected around the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' negotiating teams met in the North African coastal city of the Egyptian city for a second day of mediated discussions to discuss the terms of the agreement.

A senior representative familiar with the talks revealed that an late session of mediated discussions commenced at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the day's discussions concluded without tangible results, because of conflicting views over the proposed Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas wants to ensure Israel does not restart hostilities after the first phase of the agreement.

He added that the discussions are "difficult and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but mentioned that facilitators are striving to narrow the differences between the two sides.

Critical Matters in Negotiations

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Plans for assistance distribution
  • After-conflict governance of the territory

Public Sentiment

In the city's memorial area previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose sibling survived the incident on the Nova music festival, where many attendees were lost their lives and dozens more were abducted by Hamas militants - told: "No place feels like home any longer and until every captive return no one will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home once more, we can breathe anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

In front of the leader's residence in Jerusalem, people congregated to show their backing for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight stay in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are considered to be living.

Demonstrator a participant stated: "We must do whatever arrangement required for the abducted to come back home. But we really want assurances that we will be safe."

Research now regularly indicate that about the majority of Israelis want the war to finish in return for the freedom of the abducted.

Palestinian Situation

At the area of Nova festival, grieving people gathered to remember the victims.

From the site, the noise of military attacks and shelling could be noticed just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where observers indicated the intense Israeli shelling continued.

In the main city, bombardments were reported in the morning of that day in the west side neighborhood, area and zone districts and in the eastern neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"When the night falls, the anxiety comes with it," relocated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, shared.

"We are fearful of the air strikes. All the night we are lying together, embracing, especially my youngest child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Every second we monitor the updates to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this halt will not be completed and that the conflict will return to us."

Health Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City announced it had accepted the corpses of several people by the midday, including a trio who died in an Israeli strike in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area said additional fatalities had been brought there. A person was lost his life by Israeli troops while attempting to get assistance to the south, medical staff said.

The territory's health ministry announced twenty-five of the {territ
