Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident
New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will be OK after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.
Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was āupbeatā during their latest talk.
āThatās what eases my mind, is that heās feeling positive,ā Glenn stated on Wednesday. āHis wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.ā
The coach did not know when Boyd would leave the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.
āDonāt know just yet,ā Glenn remarked. āBut I will say this, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that puts my mind at ease, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.ā
Authorities released video stills earlier this week of a suspect in the shooting of Boyd. What prompted the attack is still being looked into and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was singled out. No one else was hurt as confirmed by officials.
The shooting happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday in the area between MSG and Times Square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, according to authorities. The perpetrator got away.
Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind āa great dealā since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a child.
āMy initial concern, he has a new baby,ā Glenn noted. āAnd Iām thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I want to make sure that heās OK. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
āThere is a procedure involved, that I wonāt detail, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.ā
Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, his first with the Jets, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.
He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was expected to be an important component of an improved special teams group under the coach and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.
Boyd has remained around the team all season long while healing from his surgery.
āHe has stayed engaged with the team,ā Glenn stated. āI mean, he is a regular at our matches. Heās fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, heās done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.ā
Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in the 2019 draft. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then joined Houstonās practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
