Paceman Gus Atkinson Compounds England's Fitness Worries.
'Serious blow' for the English camp after Atkinson is forced off suffering a hamstring problem.
Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad after leaving the playing area during Saturday's play of the Boxing Day Test against Australia.
The pace bowler felt a problem in his left hamstring post-delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.
The England team indicated the 27-year-old reported "discomfort" and was to take time off the field for further assessment "in the coming hours".
The concluding match of the tour at the SCG begins at the end of the week.
The visitors have already lost fast bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain during this series.
A replacement bowler was called up as injury reinforcement.
Atkinson struggled in the opening two Tests, claiming a mere three wickets.
He was left out of the third Test, only to be brought back for the fourth Test as Archer's replacement.
The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, claiming a couple of wickets with the ball, then making 28 while batting being one of only three teammates to get into double digits.
After bowling one over at the end of day one, he resumed the next day and dismissed the nightwatchman edging to the keeper.
Yet, at the end of his spell, he sent down a change of pace to Travis Head and immediately felt his left hamstring.
