The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Reveals He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the popular program coming to an end—and the next chapter already in development—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the narrative path of Pluribus.

About the Tremendous Fan Response

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he describes. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it from others, and that's on purpose. I have never Googled myself, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the immensely favorable response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to accept it graciously and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to tailor anything,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The narrative we craft is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Will Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff aren’t being guided by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… with some caveats.

“We have some interesting ideas about the ultimate destination,” he states. “but we are always ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. That philosophy has guided us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to wake up in bed next to Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus is currently available on Apple TV+.
