The Three Lions to Start UEFA Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium

The English squad will initiate their Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, provided that they attain the anticipated passage for a tournament taking place in most of the United Kingdom and the Irish Republic.

City’s stadium has not staged an English men’s fixture since eight years ago, when the Turkish team were overcome 2-1 in a exhibition match, but is almost certain to stage the Three Lions for their opening fixture on Saturday 10 June 2028.

The team are planned to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, should they win the preliminary round, their last-16 tie would be held at the Newcastle stadium. Placing second would mean starting the knockouts at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Competition Kickoff and Rally

The championship was inaugurated at an event in central London on Wednesday evening. High-ranking officials from the tournament organizers and the host football associations were barracked as they approached the location by approximately 50 activists, who urged Israel’s national side to be expelled from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were raised with phrases reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists chanted: “Kick Israel out.”

Event Timeline

The inaugural fixture of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Cardiff’s stadium in Cardiff, on June 9, 2028, a fixture that will include the Welsh team if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on July 9, 2028 with a start time at late afternoon.

It is expected that an earlier start, which will also be used for European club finals from the following campaign, will appeal to households and help engage a more diverse set of audiences.

Host Nations

The Republic of Ireland are scheduled to play their opening match at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would follow suit at the national stadium of Scotland.

All four host countries’ teams will participate in the qualifying tournament; two guaranteed slots will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the tournament through the standard process.

Locations and Playoffs

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground finalize the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals played at the national stadium of each host.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in the Northern Irish capital, which was dropped as a venue city last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be upgraded in time, on a date in late 2026.

Tournament Vision

“The event will be a competition for the supporters and a showcase of everything we cherish about the football – its emotion and ability to bring people together.”

Over 3 million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are expected to be offered to attendees.
