Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer contributed to the Houston Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial World Series since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the AL Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, outfielder George Springer hit a three-run homer in the seventh, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the upcoming World Series.
"It's incredible for everyone here, our city, Canada," said Springer, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "This is such an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"It's hard to imagine anyone else anywhere that I'd choose in that spot besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, remain the one club never to appear in a Fall Classic.
Wilson stated "certainly that it hurts" following his club's elimination at Rogers Centre, but praised their work this season.
"It's a special team. It's a shame that we had to come out on the wrong side of this game," he added.
Toronto won the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the first game on this Friday.
